Detecting impostors and doubles

Paul McCartney (left) had a slightly upturned nose, whereas his double's is straighter.

Detecting a double can be done by comparing and contrasting photos to identify physical differences. This is a method of general acceptance that would seem to meet the requirements of the Frye Test discussed below.
... The first step is to ... find and select images to be able to proportion the best photos for quality and range, and provide measurements and comparisons...

To make a comparison between two different periods was therefore necessary to lay down some markers, comparing the best available images of the same subject and carried out in rapid succession. As a basis for determining the proportions and be able to do work was sacrificed an important aspect in the identification: the distance interpupillare [between the pupils]...

... A German forensic pathologist studied hundreds of Hussein photos and videotapes, concentrating on his mustache and eyebrow measurements. Then he used computer software to locate specific points such as the tip of his nose and the cheekbone creating a face print which was compared to the Hussein photographs. His conclusion: that there are three Hussein impersonators, all with small, distinct differences.
Tatiana Morales, CIA: Man On Tape Is Saddam, March 21, 2003
In 2003, German television network ZDF broadcast claimed that Iraq's former president Saddam Hussein was frequently replaced with doubles for TV appearances. This analysis was based on sophisticated measuring techniques, which detected discrepancies in the position of Hussein's facial features and blemishes from appearance to appearance. It was supported by the opinion of Jerrald Post, the man who created the CIA's Psychological Profile Unit.[22] ...

Is Kim Jong Il dead? Yes, North Korea’s “Dear Leader” is no more, having passed away in the fall of 2003, writes Waseda University professor Toshimitsu Shigemura in Shukan Gendai... In the spring of 2006, says Shigemura, American spy satellites succeeded in photographing Kim. An analysis of the photographs led to an astonishing conclusion: Kim had grown 2.5 cm!...
Biometrics refers to methods for uniquely recognizing humans based upon one or more intrinsic physical or behavioral traits...

Biometric characteristics can be divided in two main classes:

Physiological are related to the shape of the body. Examples include, but are not limited to fingerprint, face recognition, DNA, hand and palm geometry, iris recognition, which has largely replaced retina, and odor/scent.

Behavioral are related to the behavior of a person. Examples include, but are not limited to typing rhythm, gait, and voice. Some researchers[1] have coined the term behaviometrics for this class of biometrics.
Strictly speaking, voice is also a physiological trait because every person has a different vocal tract, but voice recognition is mainly based on the study of the way a person speaks, commonly classified as behavioral.

Using photographs for biometrical analyses would seem to satisfy the strenuous Frye Test, which is a "general acceptance test ... to determine the admissibility of scientific evidence in United States Federal courts. It provides that expert opinion based on a scientific technique is admissible only where the technique is generally accepted as reliable in the relevant scientific community...
To meet the Frye standard, scientific evidence presented to the court must be interpreted by the court as "generally accepted" by a meaningful segment of the associated scientific community. This applies to procedures, principles or techniques that may be presented in the proceedings of a court case..." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frye_standard
Please note that Frye is no longer the standard for US federal courts, but it remains the standard in a number of states.
... [T]he Supreme Court's decision in Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, Inc., 509 U.S. 579 (1993), held that the adoption of the Federal Rules of Evidence had superseded the Frye decision as the standard for determining the admissibility of expert evidence in federal courts...
Ear biometrics have also been proposed as a means of identifying a double:
...When employing face or lip as a biometric, changing of their appearance with the expression of the subject creates problem but in case of ear the shape and appearance is fixed.

...Identification by ear biometrics is promising because it is passive like face recognition, but instead of the difficulties to extract face biometrics, it uses robust and simply extracted biometrics like those in fingerprinting. The ear is a unique feature of human beings. Even the ears of “identical twins” differ in some respects. There are persons in crime laboratories that assume that the human external ear characteristics are unique to each individual and unchanging during the lifetime of an adult...
Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Md. Rashedul Islam, Nazmul Islam Bhuiyan, Bulbul Ahmed, Md. AminulIslam, Person Identification Using Ear Biometrics
... All we have two, one by ear, but the characteristics are different for every human being. "In Germany, a recognition procedure craniometrico, identification of the right ear even tantamount to fingerprint, ie the collection of fingerprints," recalls Carlesi. But what trago? It is the small cartilage covered with skin that overhangs the entrance to the ear and ear canal, like the whole ear, not be changed surgically ...

Facial recognition software could also be used to identify a double. For example, Phantomas
is a robust Facial Recognition software that derives its information from 1,700 characteristics in the face to generate a template guarantying constant accurate recognition regardless of image quality. Headshots, composites (either hand drawn or computer generated), or even a frame captured from a surveillance video system can be used...

It is based on high performance facial recognition technology that automatically sorts the image database according to similarities, presenting only a specific selection of images on the monitor. The selected images are displayed according to special ranking. They are ranked by the degree of similarity to the original image or picture...

It encompasses global and fully neural face recognition, which eliminates identification impairments that can occur by a change, addition or removal of glasses, beards, hairstyles or even the signs of ageing (sic)...

While admittedly not as robust as Phanomas, it is interesting that some facial recognition software only found a 65-74% match for pictures that were both supposedly of Paul McCartney.

  1. Nice article!

I have a question to ask you. I know obviously they used extensive plastic surgery on Faul to get the correct "vibe" that JPM had but I wonder how EXACTLY did they go about it? I'm wondering if they made a death mask or something out of Paul's face, or did extensive research into Paul's features like studying footage or pictures. Or maybe a combination of the two.

Which do you think they did?

  2. ^ I never considered a death mask before. I wouldn't put it past them. That would probably be good for later reference.

Even without a death mask, there were tons of pictures of Paul from every possible angle. It would have been a simple matter of getting the measurements right.

I'm not sure what they were thinking w/ the ears, though, b/c Faul's prosthetic ears were terrible. The prosthetic nose-tip on "Another Day" is also pretty obvious b/c it is a darker skin tone than the rest of Faul's face.

  3. I don't understand why they do all this?? What does it get them? I am so confused at the moment and a little scared.

  4. But how in the world did they get someone with identical eyes? The color varies, but the shape are IDENTICAL. Most of the time I see the difference, but then I always go back to the eyes. The shape is dead on. I don't even know how the heck they would do eye surgery like that. The slope and everything is identical. I have never seen anything like that. Can you explain it?

  5. The eyes are not the same. Paul had sparkly eyes full of light. Faul's eyes are like black plates w/ no light.

  7. Did you ever see the episode of It Takes A Thief (late 1960s show with Robert Wagner) called "The Beautiful People"? First, the name is reminiscent of the line "How does it feel to be One of the beautiful people?" in Baby You're a Rich Man. The plot involves one man who's had plastic surgery to change his identity (he is defecting), and another agent who uses prosthetics to impersonate another agent.

    1. Hi Canice: In that song you just mentioned, "Baby, You're a Rich Man", which is the song that Lennon and 'f'aul threw together, and recorded in May of 1967, there is a line that caught my attention:

      "Tuned to a natural E
      Happy to be that way,
Now that you've found another key,
What are you going to play?"

That's from the third verse--it's right there--what I can see as a 'dead giveaway'--Paul's song, "Yesterday" was described by him this way:

" I got out of bed, sat at the piano, found G, found F sharp minor 7th -- and that leads you through then to B to E minor, and finally back to E. It all leads forward logically."
      http://www.dreaminterpretation-dictionary.com/famous-dreams-paul-mccartney.html

It's the song's being in "E", and as he said it 'leads forward logically'--naturally--which is the term used in the song, "Baby You're a Rich Man", when the lyrics author says, "tuned to a natural E"--I don't know if Lennon put that into the song as a clue by himself, or if the illuminists, who enjoy making fun of us all, laughing at our expense, wanted it in there to serve as a clue, that would also serve to say to us, "and there's nothing you can do about it!"--chuckling all the way, I'm sure!

So, in that song, it's as though the lyricist[s] wanted to show that the man standing in the place of Paul was now 'one of the beautiful people', so rich now that he's finally taking Paul's place--yet, he kept his money "in a brown paper bag, inside a zoo"[verse 2]--those words I can't figure out, but someone thought they would say something to someone, so they're in the song. The only person I can think of who quite literally lived in a 'zoo' setting was Michael Jackson on his "Neverland Ranch" where he did have zoo animals I think.

So, I think all the clues in the songs written after 1966, after Paul's 'disappearance' and 'replacement' by 'f'aul, were either placed in them by John in order to try and lay down clues that someone might figure out someday, or they were placed in those songs by someone whose mind is so twisted with evil that they wanted merely to taunt anyone who cared enough about Paul to begin noticing them, and trying to piece it all together, to find out what really happened to Paul--OR, both--both John and the twisted character[s] I mentioned wrote those clues--John's were allowed to remain in the songs, maybe because 'twisted mind[s]' thought it would be a laugh to see who tried to figure them all out--as I said, the mind, or minds, behind all of this were about as twisted-around-backwards as they could get--viewing what is 'good' as though it was 'evil' and viewing 'evil' as though it was 'good'.

Thanks for mentioning that song, and that episode from Robert Wagner's tv show "It Takes A Thief"--the song, "Baby, You're a Rich man" is one that I think contains far more clues than I ever thought it would.
